Choosing Invisalign means you’re committing to a straighter and healthier smile—not to mention, one that’ll look beautifully symmetrical! Better yet, Invisalign is often considered much more discreet and convenient than traditional metal braces, making it a very enticing option for those who need orthodontic treatment. That said, while comfortable and easy to use, the aligners do come with some important guidelines that you’ll have to follow very closely. Here’s a brief look at some key Invisalign dos and don’ts.

4 Invisalign Dos That’ll Keep Your Treatment on Track

  • Wear your aligners as directed; you’ll likely be told to wear them for around 22 hours every day, only removing them to eat meals/snacks and brush your teeth.
  • Clean your aligners daily by gently using a soft-bristle toothbrush and room temperature water. Invisalign cleaning crystals can be used for a deeper clean.
  • Brush and floss your teeth after every meal, before replacing your aligners. It’s easy for food debris to become trapped underneath them, where it’ll lead to cavities.
  • Keep your aligners in their carrying case any time they aren’t being worn, since they’re small, clear, and easy to misplace or damage by accident.

4 Things to Avoid During Invisalign Treatment

  • Never eat or drink with your aligners in, since they can easily become stained or potentially broken due to the pressure exerted from chewing.
  • Don’t use hot water to clean your aligners, as this might warp their material and cause them to stop fitting properly.
  • Don’t skip swapping to a new set of aligners on time; this timetable is usually every 2 weeks, and it’s what keeps your teeth moving on schedule.
  • Attend all of your check-in appointments at your provider’s office so that they can oversee your progress and make real-time adjustments as needed.

Following these dos and don’ts should be fairly straightforward, and by doing so, you can keep your treatment moving along as planned while ensuring that your smile looks and feels great while it’s being straightened.
